The Boating Department has created a Grants Handbook (PDF: 48 KB / 5 pages) for 2007. This short and easy to use document will point members who want to apply for grants in the right direction.

- Coast Guard Auxiliary Anniversary
On June 23, 2007 as we observe the 68th Anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association takes great pride in recognizing the outstanding service the volunteers of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary provide to the Nation, the Coast Guard and their communities. BRAVO ZULU to all members of the Auxiliary and be proud of all you do for the safety and security of others. We remain your strongest supporter and look forward to continuing our service to you.

- Sail Virginia 2007
This outstanding maritime event was covered by two Auxiliary journalists, one from a patrol boat and one from the command post on land. The tall ship photos are spectacular and the articles convey the excitement of being there. Worth a look, now in SITREP, the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.

- Wear The Proper Size Life Jacket
During National Safe Boating this article’s author reflected on her role in helping save the lives of three boaters a few weeks ago. The wearing of life jackets is only half of the equation. Her experience in the recent rescue reminded her that the other half of the life-saving formula is making sure that the life jacket is the proper size and is properly fastened. - Boating Skills & Seamanship, 13th Edition
We're pleased to announce that Boating Skills and Seamanship, 13th edition, will replace the 12th edition in shipments to flotillas beginning 1 July 2007. If flotillas have needs for stock of the 12th edition to make up enough for a full class, they can order any time during the month of June.

- eDirectory Milestone
The Auxiliary eDirectory, now has over 10,000 accounts, which is half of all Auxiliarists who have email addresses in AUXDATA. The eDirectory, a secure database, contains Auxiliary members' qualifications and e-mail addresses generated from AUXDATA. Please join your fellow Auxiliarists who have experienced the ease and usefulness of this Auxiliary resource. You can update your e-mail address, and other personal information in AUXDATA, by completing Form 7028 (PDF: 195 KB / 2 pages) to your IS Officer. To activate your account, visit the eDirectory now. Members need only a valid e-mail address in AUXDATA, their Employee ID and Zip Code.

- Unique Life Jacket Program
The Auxiliary, Radio Disney, and13 California area Sam’s Club locations came together to make a difference on their local waterways. They held their “Annual Life Jacket Trade-In” the weekend before Memorial Day to help reinforce the message about safe boating and wearing a life jacket. During the trade-in, families brought in their kid’s life vests that were too small, damaged or torn and they were provided with a new Coast Guard approved life jacket. Read about this different approach to National Safe Boating Week, now in SITREP, the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.

- BoatUS Clean Water Grant
Congratulations to the following flotillas who received a total of $9,546 from BoatUS in Clean Water Grants: $3,000 to Flotilla 09-14, 11SR $1,000 to Flotilla 02-01, D17 $315 to Flotilla 20-06, 5SR $476 to Flotilla 03-10, 5SR $1,000 to Flotilla 01-09, 8CR $3,755 to Flotilla 03-02, 9ER.

- 13,000 Yellow Rubber Ducks
Adorned with sunglasses and painted lips, 13,000 Yellow Rubber Ducks hit Lake Lanier, GA for a race to the finish line. The 9th Annual "Rubber Duck Derby" raised funds to support activities of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall County, Georgia. The event was also used by the Auxiliary as a backdrop for National Safe Boating Week (NSBW). Here’s a great idea for your next NSBW event, now in SITREP, the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.

- Commandant's Intent
Coast Guard Commandant ADM Thad Allen has issued his third SITREP addressing his Commandant’s Intent to the men and women of the Coast guard. “Over the next year we will finalize the structure of our new field and mission support organizations. At the same time we will assess staffing at Sectors to see if any adjustments are needed as we transition to a mission execution focused organization. In short, we are modernizing our Coast Guard. We are underway, making way and this is an 'all hands' evolution.”
