WHAT'S NEW ARCHIVE - MAY 2007
- Whale Odyssey
The waters of Northern California are setting the backdrop of an ongoing saga involving two lost Humpback Whales, a mother and her calf. The Auxiliary and active duty Coast Guard have been involved, along with many other organizations, in the attempt to steer these wayward creatures back to “friendlier” waters. SITREP is featuring an ongoing “extra,” a diary and photo gallery of this endeavor, now in SITREP, the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.

- Generations Meet Aboard Cutter
As part of a recent “C” school activity, a class of Auxiliarists was provided a tour aboard the USCG Cutter Morganthau. Conducted by a youthful Petty Officer, the tour was punctuated with “war” stories from 60 years past. One of the Auxiliarists in the class served aboard a similar vessel long ago and the two had a opportunity to compare past and present with a built in audience, the rest of the class. Read how this unique meeting took place and some of the “stories” shared, now in SITREP, the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.

- MLB (Motor Life Boat) Returns To Duty
Rare is the occasion when a vessel gets a second chance at another "sea life." There were serious considerations as to whether the MLB-44359 could be restored due to its abysmal condition when it was found. After a stellar career ranging from 1966 to 1995, she was decommissioned and dry-docked permanently in Muskegon. At that point, it was deemed scrap metal and not much more attention was paid to the vessel until the right set of eyes fell upon her. Read how a local Flotilla and group of Auxiliarists turned a “sow’s ear” into “gold,” now in SITREP, the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.
