- Seven Flotillas Among BoatU.S. Foundation Grant Winners
In a news release dated March 22, 2007, BoatUS Foundation announced the winners of the 2007 Boating Safety Grant Winners, including seven Coast Guard Auxiliary flotillas. Nearly $50,000 has been awarded to 23 non-profit groups spreading the message about safe boating practices. Those groups providing the Foundation with a final report at the completion of their project will be eligible for the Outreach Award, which gives the winner an additional $500 to use toward their project.

- Auxiliary Knowledge Base
The Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary (CG-3PCX) receives and replies to many questions about Auxiliary policies every week. To inform Auxiliarists of some of the most frequently asked questions, especially those which are not necessarily or easily found in Auxiliary manuals or Coast Guard instructions, the Office of Auxiliary has created the Auxiliary Knowledge Base. The purpose is to keep Auxiliarists as well as all other interested parties abreast of current developments, policies, manuals, etc. All information contained therein and linked is official policy and information.

- Recruits Get A Boost From The Auxiliary
Training Center (TRACEN) Cape May, NJ, is the home of the Coast Guard enlisted corps and recruit training center. The finest young men and women in service to the United States of America pass through the facility each year. Many Division 8, D5-NR Auxiliarists serve side-by-side with active duty members providing the recruits with the basics needed for a safe and productive career. - New AuxNav Course In Development
The National Department of Training is working to replace the Advanced Coastal Navigation text and introduce a new AuxNav course. Work began a couple of months ago to replace Advanced Coastal Navigation text with a new text – The Weekend Navigator by Robert J. Sweet. The Weekend Navigator text has a greater focus on electronic navigation. We are now working to create Student Study Guides, Instructor Guides, additional information on “charting basics”, charting problems and on-line and paper-based test question databanks. The new text and course should be available in the late fall of 2007.

- P.R. Auxiliary Learns New U.S. Customs Program
Members of Flotilla 11, D7, Fajardo, Puerto Rico , joined with U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel in manning a boating safety and information booth. At the booth the Auxiliary promoted their safety programs while the U.S. Customs personnel promoted a new “Local Boaters Option Program.” Flotilla members attended a brief seminar on the U.S. Customs program. The information received will be distributed to local recreational boaters and public education class attendees. - Update Of Administrative Procedures Course (APC) On-Line Exam
The APC is an overview of the Auxiliary Manual for elected officers at the flotilla and division levels and provides a source of material for all members to define the administration of the Auxiliary. In an attempt to improve training for flotilla and division level use, the existing on-line exam has been replaced with an updated version. The revised APC on-line exam is now available on the Exam Gateway. Members should access this on-line exam via the current web pages and not attempt to re-use cached sites or favorites. Using cached sites or favorites will result in failure to access the updated exam.
