- USCG Auxiliary Examiner & Dockwalker Augmentation Letter
Coast Guard Headquarters (G-PCV) has issued a policy letter providing detailed information about qualification and currency requirements for Auxiliarists performing Commercial Fishing Vessel, Uninspected Passenger Vessel and Uninspected Tow Vessel examinations. It also provides guidance to District Uninspected Commercial Vessel Safety and Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety (CFVS) Coordinators; Officers-In-Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMI)/Sector Commanders; unit CFVS Examiners, Uninspected Towing Vessel (UTV), and Uninspected Passenger Vessel (UPV) Examiners; and Coast Guard Auxiliary members responsible for management of the Commercial Vessel Safety Program.

- Candidates For National Election
Letters of Intent to run for National office and those eligible to seek the offices have been filed and are now available for review in a memorandum from the National Commodore (PDF: 40 KB / 2 pages). Elections will be held at NACON, Friday, 1 SEP during the National Board meeting in Dallas, TX.

- Commandant's Change of Command Available On Streaming Video
Streaming video is now available of the Change of Command (COC) ceremony for the new Commandant of the Coast Guard, ADM Thad Allen. The event was historic in several respects. It was the first COC in which the President of the United States was in attendance. In addition to President Bush, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine General Peter Pace participated. The video is now available on the National A Department Video Resource Site.

- Revised Auxiliary Uniform Procurement Guide (UPG) July 2006
The latest revised edition of the Uniform Procurement Guide (PDF: 820 KB / 45 pages) is now available from the Personnel Department. Hard copies can be ordered via your FSO-MA (ANSC 7053).

- National Commodore's Quarterly Report To The Commandant
The quarterly status report to the Commandant, reviews the challenges and initiatives facing the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. It includes updates on Incident Command Systems training; the Auxiliary Resource Alignment Study; the Regional Exams Centers initiative; an educational campaign to help boaters understand the proper use of Digital Select Calling radios; involvement with the International Search and Rescue organizations; and a review the last 100 days and looks forward to the next 100 days.

- Auxiliarists And Paralyzed Veterans Share Resources
When a member of the Central Florida Paralyzed Veterans of America joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary he could see a match made in "public service heaven!" Flotilla 45 of Sanford, Florida was looking for a reliable place to hold its meetings and activities while the Paralyzed Veterans of America chapter had a 10,000 square foot building that needed regular maintenance its members could not provide. - NOAA Publishes Online Chart Viewer
On July 4, NOAA introduced a new public service called the Online Chart Viewer. The Viewer lets mariners display [almost] any nautical chart in the national suite using only an Internet browser. Supported charts are updated weekly for notice to Mariner corrections by NOAA cartographers. The Viewer's fast, image displaying software permits rapid raster chart display, panning and zooming.

- New Training Aids Created
The National V Department has created a web page with the tools needed to complete the VSC (Vessel Safety Check) Course and Exam as well as the RBSVP (Recreational Boating Safety Visitor Program) Course and Exam. These training aids can be beneficial to those who wish to self study the program materials and also to instructors/mentors who wish to classroom train members.

- Coast Guard Vessels Receive Vessel Safety Checks
An Oregon flotilla celebrated National Safe Boating Week (NSBW) by conducting complimentary vessel safety checks (VSC) on recreational boats at a local marina. Nine vessel examiners conducted forty-nine safety checks over two Saturdays. As part of the NSBW observance the commanding officer of Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay invited the Auxiliary to conduct safety checks on their station’s boats.
