- Disaster In The Skies?...Not Really
Recently, in a simulated drill scenario, a Coast Guard HU-25 Falcon Jet collided in midair with a Coast Guard Auxiliary twin-engine aircraft over the Western Bahamas. How could something like this have happened? Fortunately, it was a mishap drill named "Operation Cay Sal" between Coast Guard Air Station Miami and the Auxiliary to test mishap planning. - Going Back To School
What audience is virtually untapped by the Auxiliary, is transported daily into groups for the purpose of learning and has a strong potential for needing important boating safety information? The answer is the young people who are in our public and private schools, many of whom belong to boating families. - New Product Line Available Through ShopAuxiliary
The Coast Guard Auxiliary Association has entered into an affiliation program with PowerFlare to provide special member-only pricing for their products. PowerFlare has produced a special Auxiliary lighting arrangement that consists of the alternating red/amber light used for towing evolutions, PWC facilities, and it may even work well on other operational facilities.
Member-only pricing is available through ShopAuxiliary. Upon entering your eDirectory ID and password, a special PowerFlare web page will provide the member-only prices. Note that this discount pricing applies to all PowerFlare products and not just the red/amber configuration.

- An Important Agreement
An important event toward furthering recreational vessel safety recently took place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Representing the National Commodore, National Vice Commodore Steve Budar signed a “Joint Statement of Intent to Foster Bilateral Cooperation” between the USCG Auxiliary and the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS). The Chief Commander of the CPS, Serge St. Martin signed the statement for his organization. The purpose of this agreement is to further foster on the water safety to the citizens of both nations while recognizing the mutual advantages to be obtained from bilateral cooperation. - National Safe Boating Council Announces Grant Program
The National Safe Boating Council Announces a "Take ’em Boating” Grant Program (PDF: 12 KB / 2 pages) to promote and develop interest in boating for future generations. The award is one cash grant of up to $5000 to be used for the enhancement or development of a youth-oriented hands-on boating program. You may also visit the National Safe Boating Council to learn more about the NSBC and their initiatives.

- Department Of Boating Announces New Memorandum Of Agreement
A Memorandum of Agreement (PDF: 1191 KB / 2 pages) between the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association, Inc. and Soundings Publications, L.L.C. agrees to work together to promote boating safety by promoting public education, vessel safety checks, Maritime Domain Awareness and numerous other outreach efforts. Soundings Publications will also offer numerous services (PDF: 1190 KB / 1 page) to the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association.

- VADM Allen's Letter To The Auxiliary At N-Train
VADM Thad Allen's schedule kept him from attending the N-Train Conference. He did, however, send this letter to be read. ADM Allen's letter concerns the Auxiliary during and following last year's Gulf Coast hurricanes where ADM Allen was the Principal Federal Official.
