- New Member Course Now Online
The New Member Course is now available online through Auxiliary eLearning, the Coast Guard
Auxiliary online learning system. Prospective members can review the contents of the course
and take the final exam online. A printout of the notification that
they passed with 80 percent or better will suffice in lieu of the hard copy answer sheet
currently required with the new member application. To access the course, go to:

Reminder: AUXSAR Will Phase Out by December 1, 2008
The "old" AUXSAR (Auxiliary Search and Rescue) program materials are no longer available from ANSC. However,
the paper-based exam for "old" AUXSAR is available until November 30, 2008 to
allow members, currently studying the "old" AUXSAR course, to be able to complete the course
using the correct exam. On December 1, 2008, the "old" AUXSAR exam will no longer
be available. Members successfully passing the "old" AUXSAR exam on or before November
30th will receive credit for the course as a part of their six-course AUXOP program.
Members currently studying the "old" AUXSAR course who do not successfully pass the "old"
AUXSAR exam on or before November 30th will have to start again and take AUXSC&E course.

- Crew Witnesses Fatal Accident
Anticipating another routine patrol the crew aboard an Auxiliary Operational Vessel witnessed a fatal boating accident. Through their fast response a greater loss of life was prevented. Read about this harrowing event, now on SITREP the Auxiliary’s National e-magazine.

- National "M" Department Appointments
The following appointments have been made within the Prevention (Marine Safety) Department: Kevin Cady, Deputy Department Chief; Lyn Thomas, Division Chief, Vessel Activities; Frank Larkin, Division Chief, Navigation Systems; COMO Mary Larsen, Division Chief, Prevention Outreach, Michael Nolan, Division Chief, Port & Facility Activities; and Karel Kester, Division Chief, Communication & Education.

- Auxiliary Center Closed For Annual Inventory
The Coast Guard Auxiliary Center (AUXCEN) in St. Louis will be closed for inventory from November 1-6, 2008. Orders will not be processed during the inventory period. Orders and returns received as of noon Friday October 31, 2008 will be held and processed upon completion of the inventory. In addition, on November 5, 2008 from 10:00 pm to 10:30 pm PST, members will not be able to submit orders through the online District Stores site due to scheduled server maintenance. Remember, even if you submit online District Stores orders during the AUXCEN closure for inventory, they will not be processed until completion of the inventory.
